The Wholesale and Retail Sector Education and Training Authority (W&RSETA) has joined forces with the Chinese Culture Centre to introduce an inventive internship and entrepreneurship program. This initiative is set to send 86 graduates from Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges in South Africa on a transformative 12-month training journey in China. The program spans 11 TVET colleges, marking a significant step towards fostering international collaboration and skill development in the wholesale and retail sectors.
With a keen focus on cross-border e-commerce and entrepreneurship, the program, generously funded by W&RSETA to the tune of R22 million, is poised to make a significant impact. Departing for China on May 26, 2024, a cohort of 86 graduates, comprising 44 males and 42 females, are set to immerse themselves in invaluable work-integrated learning experiences until May 2025. This initiative underscores W&RSETA's commitment to nurturing talent and fostering international collaboration in the wholesale and retail sector.
Crafted to offer a distinct advantage, this unparalleled opportunity aims to arm participants with the essential skills and knowledge vital for success in the dynamic global e-commerce sphere. With a primary goal of igniting entrepreneurial growth within South Africa, this initiative stands as a testament to the commitment to empowering individuals to excel in the ever-evolving landscape of international commerce. "We are thrilled to launch this programme in collaboration with the Chinese Culture Centre. This initiative is a testament to our commitment to empowering young South Africans with the skills they need to excel in the global marketplace", says Tom Mkhwanazi, CEO of the W&RSETA.
"By investing in their development, we are not only enhancing their career prospects but also contributing to the growth and innovation of the Wholesale and Retail Sector. We look forward to seeing the positive impact these graduates will have upon their return", Tom Mkhwanazi added.
