How To Prepare for HR Round Interview

  • Having an excellent academic records and sound technical knowledge are not adequate to ascertain you a Job. Almost every company conducts an HR round of interview to judge the personality, assets, weaknesses, and capability of candidates to handle the role. They also clarify the background of the aspirants to comprehend if they are the right fit for the job.

    Although the HR round is generally the last round of the recruitment process for any company, it is often considered to be the most crucial round of selection for the candidates. Most of the companies take HR round to be an elimination round to reject candidates based on their performance. Therefore, after qualifying through the initial rounds of selection, candidates take extra precautions to not get eliminated in the HR round.

    Students take extra precaution to perform better while facing the HR round of the interview. Some of the tips to prepare for the HR round are mentioned below: 

    • Have a proper understanding of the Job position that you are applying for and gather every possible detail about it. Ensure that you have the right skill set and educational qualification required for the particular job position. Have a proper research about the company like their achievements, current projects they are working on, work-life balance, fields they are investing, and so on.   

    • Try matching the requirement of the job opening with your resume. Go through the profiles you are sharing with the recruiter so that you won’t have any last-minute confusion. Repeatedly ensure that you have enlisted all important detail about you and they are true as per your knowledge. Prepare yourself beforehand to answer any probable questions that can be asked on the basis of your resume. 

    • Try not to fake yourself or bluff the answers. Be yourself and tell them what you know. Be honest about anything you are speaking about and try to dodge giving irrelevant answers. It might confuse the recruiter and prove to be disadvantageous for you. 

    • Dress formally and comfortably. Try to keep it as simple as possible with minimum of accessories. Apart from everything else, ensure to reach the venue on time.

    • Try to be interactive with the HR manager without being dull. Always wear a smile on your face instead of being paranoid or worried. Gently introduce yourself and tell the interviewer about your interests, skill sets, qualifications, achievements etc.

    • Try not to tell things that are already mentioned in your resume and maintain a constant fluency in your answers. Don’t let the interviewer feel like you have mugged up the answers.

    • Give the interviewer a fair idea why you should be hired. The best way to answer such type of question is to highlight your skills to the interviewer and how are you intending to use it for the growth of the company. 

    • Give few examples of your previous experiences and the projects you have worked on so far. Tell them how your experience and expertise can be beneficial for their company. They can get a fair knowledge about your interest and intention of joining them which might work in your favour.
