Will make a historic change in the field of education: Malaysia

  • The 2027 School Curriculum aims to empower the younger generation with skills, values, adaptability, and forward-thinking abilities to navigate a post-normal era, emphasizing the core values of the Malaysian nation. Addressing the Professional Discussion program, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek recognized the crucial role of education in preparing the next generation to confront the effects of global challenges such as climate change, electric vehicles, international conflicts resulting in humanitarian crises, pandemics, and the rise of artificial intelligence (AI).

Hence, a transformation is needed in the curriculum, aligning it with the current and future global transformations. It is imperative to address these challenges with fair and impartial solutions, ensuring the well-being of students in any circumstance. These solutions should not solely rely on technology but should be embraced and adopted universally, irrespective of ethnicity, socio-economic status, or geographical location. Fadhlina emphasized that developing the 2027 School Curriculum will draw guidance from key national policies, including the National Education Policy, National Child Policy, National Unity Policy, Malaysia Digital Economic Action Framework, and Digital Education Policy.

For instance, the Child Policy seeks to encourage individuals who are healthy, active, knowledgeable, innovative, creative, identity-conscious, competitive, progressive, and value-oriented. Meanwhile, the National Unity Policy underscores ongoing endeavours to promote, reinforce, and sustain unity within the population, utilizing the concept of unity in diversity to preserve harmony in our diverse society. The recently introduced Digital Education Policy aims to cultivate a generation proficient in digital skills, improve competence and professionalism, and bridge the digital gap, ultimately integrating digital technology into education. Fadhlina stated that the new curriculum would emphasize the foundational skills of reading, writing, and arithmetic or the (3Rs) to address any educational deficiencies.
