UP College of Science hosts a Fair linking Innovators and Businesses

  • The University of the Philippines Diliman-College of Science (UPD-CS) recently hosted a two-day research fair aimed at fostering connections between innovators and entrepreneurs. Dubbed the Innovation-Research Fair, the event sought to bridge the gap between scientists developing new inventions and entrepreneurs interested in bringing these innovations to the public. 

    The fair attracted research adopters from various industries, including Analog Devices Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University, BioAssets Corporation, Bureau of Plant Industry, Bureau of Soils and Water Management, Osaka University - Institute of Laser Engineering, and International Flavors and Fragrances. Additionally, representatives from Maynilad Water Services Inc. - WATERLab, Pathway Technologies Inc., Mandaluyong City Health Office, Department of Environment, Natural Resources Environmental Management Bureau Air Quality Management Section, and Vecor Labs Philippines were also in attendance.

    Various institutes under UPD-CS, such as the Marine Science Institute, Institute of Biology, Institute of Chemistry, Institute of Environmental Science and Meteorology, Institute of Mathematics, National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, National Institute of Physics, Material Science and Engineering Program, and National Institute of Geological Sciences, showcased their service laboratories and research capabilities to the research adopters.

    Moreover, several CS laboratories and institutes presented their value proposition posters to the research adopters. These included the Microbial Ecology of Terrestrial and Aquatic Systems Laboratory, Fungal Laboratory, Pathogen-Host-Environment Interactions Research Laboratory, Developmental Toxicity and Signaling Research Laboratory, Integrative Research Laboratory Philippines, DNA Barcoding Laboratory, and UPD-CS IESM’s Biogeography, Environment, Evolution, and Climate Laboratory. UPD-CS IM and MSEP also showcased their posters to the research adopters. Overall, the Innovation-Research Fair served as a platform for fostering collaborations between researchers and industry partners, with a focus on leveraging scientific innovations for societal benefit.
