Higher education leaders from universities and organisations around the world are gathering in Malaysia for the QS Higher Ed Summit, Focusing on universities and the future of work in the region, the event is organised by QS Quacquarelli Symonds alongside Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) and co-hosted by Applied Science Private University, Jordan. The summit brings together a distinguished assembly of policymakers, institutions and experts to foster collaboration, overcome challenges and enhance the quality of one of the world's fastest-growing higher education sectors.
In his opening remarks, UKM vice-chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Ekhwan Toriman said the QS Higher Education Summit serves as an important platform for UKM to engage with prestigious global universities, promoting sustainability and translational research, which are key criteria in the QS ranking system. "We are confident that this conference will provide valuable insights into the pivotal role of universities in shaping a better nation and delivering profound contributions to society", he said. Ekhwan said education is vital for honing people's skills and knowledge, fuelling productivity, fostering creativity and driving technological progress.
He said recognising the current landscape, this year's summit was structured around the theme 'Shaping the Future: Universities and the World of Work in the Asia Pacific; focusing on 10 specific areas such as Global Engagement, Employability and Outcomes, Research and Discovery, Sustainability, Innovation & Knowledge Transfer and Student Demand. "These are among the most important aspects that all educators and stakeholders should consider in creating a better learning environment for our future generation. "I sincerely hope that this conference will ignite our passion in crafting and delivering exceptional teaching and learning experiences", he said. The summit was officiated by Tunku Besar of Seri Menanti, Tunku Ali Redhauddin Tuanku Muhriz.
