The Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, in collaboration with EDCIL

  • The Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, in collaboration with EDCIL, hosted a Study In India (SII) workshop at the AICTE auditorium in New Delhi. The goal was to educate all stakeholders from various Ministries/Departments, FRROs, Indian Missions abroad, and Compliance Officers of Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) about the SII portal and their specific roles in its operation. The portal was jointly launched by Union Education and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan and Union External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar in New Delhi on 3rd August  2023  as part of the Internationalisation of the Higher Education efforts.

    Secretary, Dept. Of  Higher Education Shri K. Sanjay Murthy said that the SII program was launched to bring cohesive and coordinated actions for easing the process of regulatory actions for any student willing to study in India with the collaboration of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of External Affairs. He further added that in this Amrit Kaal period, we aim to host at least 10 million students from worldwide and our institutions need to set firm targets to ensure its fulfillment.

    Shri Abhay Karandikar, Director of IIT Kanpur, praised the efforts and leadership of the Ministries involved, expressing confidence that this unique initiative will successfully achieve the objectives of internationalization of higher education and fulfill the aspirations of students and learners. While addressing the audience, Prof. Anil Sahasrabudhe, Chairman of NETF, stated that the students will serve as global ambassadors for India and will promote the country as a preferred destination for higher education research.

    Nearly 500 officials attended the event, including virtual participation from the FRROs and other officials from the Ministries of Home Affairs, External Affairs, Education, Indian missions abroad, and representatives from Indian higher education institutions (HEIs). India, which has the world's second-largest higher education system, has produced some of the world's most brilliant minds. By providing affordable, high-quality education, the SII program aims to position India as a preferred study destination. It provides access to over 500 prestigious educational institutions, with 100,000 seats available in undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG), doctoral, and other short-term programs, with over 2,600 courses available. This initiative will make a significant contribution to improving the overall quality of higher education.

    Study in India is a flagship program of the Indian government, aligned with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's vision of re-establishing India as a global education hub. The website portal serves as a single point of contact for registration and visa approvals, simplifying the entire process and allowing students to select their desired courses, receive institute offer letters, and successfully pursue their academic dreams in India.
