Opportunity to study for The deprived Girls in Afghanistan: Begum

  • The latest online educational platform named ‘Begum Academy has recently started its activities to educate girls beyond the sixth grade, to promote education in the country, and to inspire girls deprived of education. This academy functions in France and teaches girls from the sixth to the twelfth standards. According to the functionaries of this institution, a graduation certificate is also granted upon completing the twelfth grade.

The above program has been initiated due to the distress faced by girls as they were banned from education in Afghanistan. "These girls are now facing an undetermined future and depression due to educational deprivation" Ziauddin Bakhtiar, one of the officials of ‘Begum Academy', stated in an interview. He also mentioned that the Girls are very enthusiastic about studies as more than 2,500 female students have joined since the beginning of the course.

According to the layout of the course, course materials for grades seven to twelve are organized in such a way that it gives the experience of the classroom when uploaded on the website. From a remote village in the Badakhshan region, an eleventh-division student deprived of education for two years has enrolled in the course. Although she describes the bill of the internet connection and access to the antenna area as difficult, she believes that distance learning is precious and encouraging for her. The Taliban government not taking any action toward reopening schools for girls even after 800 days of deprivation is a big concern.
