Oberlin has partnered with an Indian nonprofit dedicated to creating opportunities for standout students from South Asia to attend college in the United States and set a course for lives and careers of impact. Established in 2014, the Next Genius Foundation connects high school students across India, Bangladesh, and Nepal with opportunities to pursue higher education at U.S. partner institutions. In its first eight years, the nonprofit has helped some 300 students earn scholarships totaling more than $38 million, with plans for 200 additional scholarships to be administered in 2023-24 alone. The program is designed to provide ongoing mentorship, internships, and career support for all participating scholars through their college years and beyond. Next Genius is administered in conjunction with more than 1,000 high schools across India, Bangladesh, and Nepal and funded by its 20 U.S. partner institutions as well as Indian corporations and private donations. “Oberlin is committed to access and opportunity,” says Manuel Carballo, Oberlin’s vice president and dean of admissions and financial aid. “We appreciate the different perspectives that our international students provide and the wide range of experiences they draw upon, and look forward to working with Next Genius to increase access to an Oberlin education.” Oberlin’s most recent incoming class included students hailing from 46 nations worldwide.
