Morristown High Students Clinch Victory in National STEM Competition

  • The Technology Student Association (TSA) hosted its yearly conference in Orlando from June 26 to July 1. The event attracted participants from various parts of the United States and several international delegations, including countries like Germany and South Korea. Competitors engaged in more than 40 STEM competitions at both middle and high school levels, covering areas from coding to structural design.

Recently, seniors Christopher Cioffi, Jonah Gardberg, Hanna Cochran, and Graham Hatley, graduates of Morristown High School, won first place in the Digital Video Production competition. Their challenge was to produce a three-minute high fantasy short film featuring Hatley's mother, Leah and sister Lyla in starring roles.

The team achieved victory at the New Jersey level of the competition last year, earning them a spot at the national conference in Louisville, Kentucky. There, they advanced to the semifinals, placing among the top twelve but falling short of podium placement. Determined to excel this year, the team dedicated the entire year to refining their project while also strengthening and expanding their young chapter. They faced stiff competition from experienced delegations, some boasting upwards of fifty members.

Additionally, the team secured ninth place overall in the On-Demand Video competition, tasked with producing a one-minute short film within 36 hours at the conference. Leah Gardberg, a rising junior, also earned her spot at the conference by winning first place in the Photographic Technology competition at the New Jersey conference.

The Morristown chapter expresses gratitude to their advisor, Mr. Rodney Lee, parent advisor Chris Cioffi Sr., Principal Mark Manning, and Mrs. Pam Eschmann for their unwavering support of the club. They eagerly anticipate next year's competitions and conference in Nashville, Tennessee.
