Maritime Academy Philippines, Held Its First Graduation Ceremony

  • The MOL Magsaysay Maritime Academy Philippines recently celebrated its inaugural graduation ceremony, marking a significant breakthrough in maritime education and training. This event represents a crucial step in addressing the worldwide shortage of proficient sailors. Established in 2018 through a collaboration between MITSUI O.S.K. Lines Ltd. (MOL) and Magsaysay Maritime Corp. (MMC), the academy's mission is to train highly skilled seafarers for ensuring safe transport services.

The ceremony, held in Dasmarinas City, Cavite, was attended by approximately 600 guests, including notable figures like MOL President and CEO Takeshi Hashimoto, Kabayan party-list Rep. Ron Salo, Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines Kazuhiko Koshikawa, and Doris Magsaysay Ho, president and CEO of MMC's shareholding company A. Magsaysay Inc.

About half of the graduates from the MOL Magsaysay Maritime Academy Philippines are poised to join MOL Group as third officers and third engineers, contributing to global seaborne trade. The significance of Filipino seafarers was highlighted, given the growing demand for skilled crew members proficient in advanced ship operation technologies. The students underwent intensive training, utilizing new simulators and full-size engines before embarking on their sailing journeys.

The recent graduation ceremony at the MOL Magsaysay Maritime Academy Philippines marked a historic moment, symbolizing the departure of the inaugural class of students who completed the comprehensive curriculum, including shipboard training. This event underscores MMMA's dedication to excellence in maritime education and training, serving as a significant step towards meeting the global demand for skilled sailors. It stands as a beacon of hope for numerous aspiring seafarers in the Philippines and beyond.
