In response to the major impact of climate change on vulnerable communities in India, IBM is taking steps to support innovators through advanced technology and training. Before COP28, IBM unveiled the newest investments through its social impact programs aimed at promoting environmental sustainability. The company will expand its environmental initiatives, focusing on water solutions, using the IBM Sustainability Accelerator in collaboration with The University of Chicago Trust. Additionally, a unique roadmap of sustainability skills courses, accessible at no cost through IBM SkillsBuild, has been introduced to empower individuals for future climate action.
Justina Nixon-Saintil, IBM Vice President & Chief Impact Officer said "Approximately half of the world population is vulnerable to environmental suffering and new steps should be taken towards a sustainable future." We have to increase the solutions to resolve the environmental problems as soon as possible, while also building a pipeline for the upcoming leaders at the convergence of technology and sustainability across the globe.
IBM commits to train 30 million people by 2030 with a prime focus on marginalized communities. IBM SkillsBuild, government agencies and vocational organisations have joined forces to provide free online learning widely available, to communities that are marginalized in technology. The organizations will help women including mothers, ethnic minorities, low-income individuals, and refugees to achieve skills.
