Edu Secretary Initiates Science Mentorship Program, Inspiring Research

  • The sixth iteration of the "Distinguished Master, Accomplished Students" Mentorship Programme, jointly organized by the Hong Kong Academy of Sciences (ASHK), the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Sciences, the Hong Kong Institution of Science, and the Hong Kong Young Academy of Sciences, has officially commenced with a kick-off ceremony on March 24. Dr CHOI Yuk-lin, JP, Secretary for Education of HKSAR, was invited as an officiating guest and delivered a speech at the event, attended by approximately 300 distinguished guests, students, principals, teachers, and parents. 

     A total of 56 esteemed scientists and engineers have volunteered as mentors for the programme, aiming to guide 105 local high school science students, encouraging their exploration of scientific research topics and laying a strong foundation for nurturing future scientific talent in society. This year's Mentorship Programme features 56 prominent local scientists and engineers serving as mentors, covering various professional fields such as life sciences, engineering, and chemistry. Notable participants include Professor TENG Jin Guang, President of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and Professor LUK Kam Biu, Chair Professor of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, both joining the programme for the first time.

    Dr CHOI Yuk-lin, JP, Secretary for Education, recognized the Mentorship Programme's contribution, having supported nearly 700 students interested in science and engineering since its inception in 2018. She praised the programme for bringing together passionate and experienced professionals to guide the younger generation in participating in high-quality science outreach activities, thus broadening their horizons. Dr CHOI expressed gratitude to the experts and mentors for their selfless dedication and encouraged students to seize the learning opportunity, strive for success in the innovation and technology sector, and actively contribute to the development of a better Hong Kong and the nation's rejuvenation.
