Deakin University, a leading Australian university, is pleased to announce the expansion of its strategic engagement initiative, Deakin HUBS. Building on this collaborative and innovative foundation, the University has announced the opening of the fourth Deakin HUB in India at Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), one of India's leading academic and research institutions. This announcement is one of many steps Deakin University has taken to achieve the objectives outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 to internationalize higher education in India through research collaborations and student exchange with high-quality foreign higher educational institutions (HEI). The Deakin HUB at MAHE will serve as the focal point for all engagement activities aimed at strengthening the university-industry-government partnership and achieving academic and research excellence that benefits both India and Australia.
Professor Iain Martin, Vice-Chancellor of Deakin University, made the announcement during his current visit to India, which began in New Delhi. Professor Martin presented a certificate to Lt Gen (Dr) M. D. Venkatesh, Vice-Chancellor of MAHE Manipal, symbolically establishing the Deakin HUB and strengthening the institution's long-standing and multi-faceted partnership. "With this announcement, we are marking a new milestone in our institutions' two-decade-long collaboration. This exciting development will propel our collaborative efforts to new heights, fostering more strategic collaboration aimed at improving academic and research excellence. We hope to develop students' skill potential and create future global citizens by improving mobility and growth outcomes "Professor Iain Martin stated.Over the last two decades, MAHE and Deakin University have collaborated and engaged in joint research, academic articulations, and student mobility. MAHE and Deakin University will establish a model through the Deakin HUB to explore innovative pathways in higher education, research, and training that are of in-country programs leading to onshore studies in Australia. Students can expect easy mobility between campuses in India and Australia, as well as end-to-end Deakin support for in-country internships and industry interaction. The benefit of two-way mobility will be the highlight.
Manipal's Vice-Chancellor, MAHE, stated, "Throughout our distinguished history, MAHE has been a magnet for international students seeking academic excellence in India. We have welcomed Malaysian students since the establishment of our first self-financed medical college in 1953, a tradition that has proudly continued over the years. The collaboration between Deakin and MAHE has been distinguished by a proactive commitment to internationalization, and it gives me great pleasure to announce the formal establishment of the Deakin HUB in Manipal. This historic step represents our collective determination to take our partnership to new heights. I am convinced that this initiative will serve as a catalyst for even deeper collaborations, particularly in the field of research."
The announcement of the new Deakin HUB at MAHE is very exciting because it allows us to take our partnership to the next level of innovation in terms of delivering contemporary models of academic and research pathways between India and Australia. It will usher in the next chapter of knowledge exchange by expanding global opportunities for excellence for Indian students, research fellows, and academics," said Ravneet Pawha, Vice-President (Global Alliances) and CEO (South Asia), Deakin University. MAHE is the fourth Deakin HUB in India, following those at OP Jindal Global University (Sonipat), Symbiosis International University (Pune), and Chitkara University (Chandigarh). These HUBS are Deakin's flagship initiative for increasing their engagement in India, with the goal of enhancing growth, student mobility, joint research, and a deeper collaboration between Indian institutes and Deakin. They have steadily and successfully expanded the opportunities for Indian students to give a global dimension to their visions and ambitions, while also providing a platform for Australia-India knowledge partnership.
