Cusat enters into an agreement with a university in Oman

  • Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) and the University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) in Musandam, Sultanate of Oman, have officially established a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) during an online ceremony. To advance regional maritime education, Meera V., Registrar of Cusat, and Ahmed Said Ahmed Al Shahri, Assistant Vice-Chancellor of UTAS, Oman, jointly signed the MoC. This collaboration aims to redefine standards in maritime education by incorporating innovative approaches and facilitating the exchange of knowledge between Cusat's Department of Ship Technology and UTAS Musandam. The partnership will involve sharing the extensive expertise of Cusat's Department of Ship Technology to introduce specialized courses in naval architecture and shipbuilding at UTAS Musandam, in addition to fostering faculty exchange, collaborative research, and joint conferences.

    Established in 1971, Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) is an autonomous university owned by the state government and located in Kochi, Kerala, India. The university operates three campuses, with two situated in Kochi (Kalamassery and Ernakulam) and one in Kuttanad, Alappuzha, located 66 km (41 mi) inland. CUSAT offers degrees in engineering and science across undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. Originally named the University of Cochin, it was created in response to a demand for advanced education in the state and was formally instituted through legislation by the Kerala Legislature. In February 1986, it was rechristened as Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT). The university's objectives encompass the promotion of undergraduate and postgraduate studies, as well as advanced research in applied science, technology, industry, commerce, management, and social sciences.

    The University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) is a public university that operates in 9 governorates, featuring 11 branches distributed across the country. Serving as Oman's inaugural higher education institution, UTAS has a student population of 46,230 enrolled in various specializations at the Diploma, Advanced Diploma, and Bachelor levels. These specializations span disciplines such as Pharmacy, Engineering, Applied Sciences, Business Studies, Information Technology, Applied Photography, Fashion Design, Education, Applied Biotechnology, Engineering, Mass Communication Studies, International Business Administration, Information Technology, and Design.
