Sileshi Kebede, who has been given a Chinese government scholarship for the 2023-2024 academic year, feels he is one step closer to realizing his aim of contributing to the socioeconomic growth of his nation. On Thursday, the Chinese Embassy in Ethiopia hosted a farewell celebration for Ethiopian students who received Chinese government scholarships for the 2023-2024 academic year. Kebede and the other 25 students are now going on a new study adventure in China. Kebede highlighted that after visiting China, he will make every effort to deepen his studies while also seeing China's progress and changes, as well as the process of Chinese modernization. "Every year, the Chinese government provides us with these scholarships for Ethiopian students." "This is the result of China and Ethiopia's strong relations," said Kebede, who is about to begin his Ph.D. studies in science."This scholarship (opportunity) is also one of the fruits of our nice friendship," he continued. In recent years, many Ethiopian students have expressed an interest in studying Chinese and seeking a Chinese scholarship, which plays an important role in enhancing their Chinese language competence and serving as a connecting bridge between the two nations' peoples. Lemlem Kassa, a Chinese government scholarship recipient who finished with a Ph.D. in software engineering last year, is one of these Ethiopians.
Kassa, who emphasized the importance of research and experimentation in Chinese education, emphasized the critical necessity for Ethiopian students to use what they have learned in China to the benefit of their nation."Aside from the educational opportunity," she added, "this is a golden opportunity for students to serve as connecting bridges between two friendly countries." Addressing the goodbye event, Idossa Terfassa, Scholarships, and Internationalization Head at the Ethiopian Ministry of Education, praised the importance of Chinese scholarships to human capacity development in Ethiopia. Terfassa urged Ethiopian students to learn from China's socioeconomic progress and apply it in the Ethiopian context, noting that Ethiopians are the greatest receivers of Chinese scholarships. "In addition to working hard and achieving your academic goals, I am confident that you will play a significant role in strengthening the bilateral relations of the two great nations," Terfassa told the Chinese scholarship recipients. On his part, Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia Zhao Zhiyuan expressed his hope that Ethiopian students in China would be able to adapt to their new living environment in China as soon as possible, study hard, make friends, gain a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of China, and become the successors of the China-Ethiopia friendship. China and Ethiopia have established a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, with education cooperation being one of the most significant spheres of collaboration, playing an important role in our bilateral cooperation.
