Chinese institutions consented to promote skills development in technology

  • China's Tianjin University of Technology and Education (TUTE) and Ethiopia's Technical and Vocational Training Institute (TVTI) have signed a collaboration pact focusing on technological advancement. The Ethiopian Luban Workshop funded by China signed an agreement on the premises of the TVTI in Addis Ababa, to raise the efficiency of the workshop. Biruk Kedir, Director General of TVTI, stated that the agreement demonstrates China's commitment to upgrading technology and engineering knowledge in the countries of East Africa.

The Luban Workshop is an important medium for Ethiopia to fill the gap, said Kedir in an interview with Xinhua which is an outcome of collaboration between the two parties to strengthen their cooperation. TVTI has been offering technology-oriented practical training to trainers and technicians through the Luban workshop. The latest agreement will strengthen the cooperation between TVTI and TUTE and will help Luban Workshop grow its reach. During the event, TUTE donated essential technology-related equipment and innovation kits to TVTI. The two sides also launched the China-Africa (Ethiopia) competition on industrial robotics technology applications for university students.

According to TUTE Board Chair Zhang Jingang, the agreement between China and Ethiopia is a significant milestone toward the implementation of the strategy of building a community with a shared future in technical education. It will also help execute the projects of the Belt and Road Initiative in Ethiopia, which is an East African country."TUTE aims to enhance technical skills, talents, and vocational teaching qualifications in Africa through its Luban workshops. It strives to promote people-to-people ties between China and Africa", he said.
