Bryan Kah Jhun Lau embarked on a transformative journey halfway across the globe in pursuit of his passion. Driven by a deep fascination with chemical reactions and an unwavering ambition to become a chemist, Lau made the bold decision to leave behind his family and hometown of Rawang, Malaysia, to pursue his studies at Arizona State University (ASU).
His motivation stemmed from the belief that the United States offered greater opportunities for chemistry majors compared to his native Malaysia. Graduating in the spring of 2024 with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry, Lau reflects on his journey, recognizing the significance of receiving his education in a country where numerous chemical companies are established, offering promising career prospects.
During his time at ASU, Lau not only excelled in his rigorous academic pursuits but also gained invaluable experience as an intern at EMD Electronics, honing his skills as an analytical chemist in a dynamic industry environment. His dedication and achievements did not go unnoticed, as he was honored with both the ASU New American University Scholarship and the esteemed Arizona Society for Coatings Technology Scholarship for his academic excellence and contributions to the community.
Beyond his academic endeavors, Lau attributes much of his growth and support to the vibrant community he found within ASU's student organizations. Engaging with groups such as the Asian-Asian Pacific American Students' Coalition, the Coalition of International Students, and the Malaysia Students Association, Lau found a nurturing environment that allowed him to thrive personally and academically.
Expressing his gratitude, Lau extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported him along the way. He acknowledges the Asian-Asian Pacific American Students' Coalition executive board for welcoming him into their community and cherishes the camaraderie he found within. Additionally, he expresses deep appreciation to his family, friends, and all those who supported him throughout his educational journey at ASU.
