Cha-Ching endeavours to empower Filipinos with financial literacy

  • Prudence Foundation, the community investment arm in Asia and the Pacific of Prudential plc, the parent company of Pru Life UK, has partnered with JA Philippines to officially relaunch its financial literacy education program. The program, titled "One Student to a Million: Cha-Ching Shaping a Financially Literate Generation", aims to transform the future for young children and is dedicated to empowering youth by instilling financial literacy. The curriculum, initiated by the Prudence Foundation and Pru Life UK in the Philippines in 2016, is part of Pru Life's commitment as a leading life insurance company offering financial and health solutions.

Demonstrating its effectiveness, the Cha-Ching program has been incorporated into the Grade 4 school curriculum, providing students at a young age with exposure to financial matters, including money, finances, and various investment modules. Recognizing that a significant number of daily decisions involve finances, Cha-Ching empowers students to gain the knowledge and confidence to manage their finances effectively, regardless of scale. Today, Cha-Ching is celebrated as the Philippines' most prominent financial literacy program for youth, earning accolades such as the Silver Asia-Pacific Stevie Award in the Innovation in Community Relations or Public Service Communications category in 2021 and the Money Awareness and Inclusion Awards in 2022.

In the current year, the revamped Cha-Ching program sets an ambitious target, aiming to impact 1,000,000 students and 28,000 teachers nationwide. This objective underscores the commitment of Prudence Foundation, Pru Life UK, JA Asia Pacific, and JA Philippines to lead the way in providing financial literacy education for young people. Eng Teng Wong, President and CEO of Pru Life UK, expressed excitement about the Philippines being the first country to have the Cha-Ching curriculum reach 1 million students by the 2023-2024 school year. This accomplishment reflects their purpose as partners for every life and protectors for every future.
