Cedars-Sinai and Tsinghua University collaborate on intensive research training

  • Medical research knows no borders: Collaborations across countries and continents hold the potential to expedite breakthroughs and quicken the pace of discoveries. Establishing robust international connections has positioned Cedars-Sinai as a global leader in healthcare, uniting diverse experts with profound knowledge to collectively pioneer innovative treatments and safeguard the well-being of communities worldwide. Central to one of Cedars-Sinai's latest partnerships is an agreement with China's Tsinghua University, allowing students from Tsinghua's medical school to undergo two years of Intensive research training at the Cedars-Sinai campus in Los Angeles.

"Tsinghua stands as one of the globe's top universities, particularly esteemed in the field of engineering", remarked Jeffrey Golden, MD, the Lippman Family Distinguished Chair in Academic Medicine and vice dean of Research and Graduate Education at Cedars-Sinai. "This collaboration is mutually beneficial, capitalizing on the prowess of their basic sciences and our clinical and translational sciences. Both Cedars-Sinai and Tsinghua Medicine are aligned in their pursuit of cultivating the next generation of skilled physician-scientists, and this program serves as a guiding framework to achieve that shared objective".

"Every Tsinghua medical student must engage in two years of research, with the longstanding option to conduct it overseas at institutions such as the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Melbourne", explained Golden. "We were delighted that in the inaugural year, nearly 25% of students undertaking research abroad chose Cedars-Sinai. This reflects the significant potential inherent in this collaboration for stakeholders at both institutions". Cedars-Sinai, renowned for its excellence in cancer research, is among the top U.S. hospitals. This aligns with my area of interest, making it an ideal place for me to acquire the skills essential for my future career, she added.
