The American University of Sharjah (AUS) is expanding its research endeavors with the inauguration of three state-of-the-art research centers, each dedicated to tackling critical issues and fostering innovation in their respective domains. The announcement was made during the AUS Innovation Expo: Future of Research and Technology in the UAE. The Energy, Water, and Sustainable Environment Research Centre within the AUS College of Engineering aims to confront sustainability challenges in alignment with the UAE Net Zero 2050 initiative and the National Water and Energy Demand Management Program.
Similarly, the Centre for Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and Sustainable Development in the AUS School of Business Administration is focused on bolstering the UAE's National Entrepreneurship Agenda and nurturing an entrepreneurial ecosystem. Meanwhile, the Materials Research Centre in the AUS College of Arts and Sciences is committed to advancing innovation in materials science, energy, and environmental sustainability, in harmony with the objectives outlined in the UAE Economic Vision 2030.
Dr. Mohamad El-Tarhuni, Interim Provost and Chief Academic Officer at AUS, emphasized the university's dedication to fostering a culture of research excellence. He underscored the significance of these newly established research centers in addressing global challenges and propelling the institution to the forefront of innovation. Through rigorous inquiry and interdisciplinary collaboration, AUS seeks to pioneer new frontiers and make enduring contributions to knowledge and societal advancement.
The expo also featured a keynote address by Dr. Chaouki T. Abdalla, Executive Vice President for Research at Georgia Institute of Technology, USA, and a member of the AUS Board of Trustees, on "Building a World-Class Research and Innovation Organization." Hatem Al Mosa, Chief Executive Officer of Sharjah National Oil Corporation, shared insights on fostering innovation with his keynote speech titled "Building an Innovation Ecosystem.
