Abu Dhabi University (ADU) recently concluded its sixth annual ‘Women in Engineering Forum’ for the fifth consecutive year, demonstrating its commitment to empowering women in the field of engineering. Organized by ADU’s College of Engineering in collaboration with the International Federation of Structural Concrete UAE (fib-UAE), and partnership with Abu Dhabi City Municipality, the Society of Engineers, and the Abu Dhabi Convention and Exhibition Bureau, the event was sponsored by TransGulf Readymix.
Themed "Engineering the Future: Women Breaking Barriers with Innovation for a Sustainable World," this year's Forum highlighted the significant contributions of women in engineering and aimed to promote equity, diversity, and inclusivity across various engineering disciplines.
Dr. Reem Sabouni, Associate Professor at ADU and Chair of Women Engineers at fib-UAE, along with being President of the American Society of Civil Engineers UAE Section (ASCE-UAE), chaired the Forum. The event brought together more than 20 influential women in engineering and attracted over 150 attendees.
Speakers at the Forum addressed the challenges encountered by women in the engineering profession and proposed solutions to maximize their potential for advancement in the field. The event fostered knowledge sharing, networking, and skills development, with a specific emphasis on sustainable development and female empowerment.
Utilizing a hybrid format to engage regional and international audiences, the Forum featured keynote addresses and technical presentations from both local and international experts. Discussions centred on strategies to narrow the gender gap and promote the adoption of innovative technologies and sustainable practices across various engineering sectors.
