The meeting was held at UMY's Gedung Djarnawi Hadikusuma, and the distinguished faculty members and deans of the two institutions attended. The discussions focused on the creation of a curriculum that would provide competency-based education, meaning all-rounded education to boost foreign language teaching in the region. The two institutions recognize the growth in a demand for experienced language teachers and strive to prepare graduates with the necessary knowledge and abilities to fulfill this need."This is an excellent opportunity for both our institutions to leverage on our respective strengths and expertise", said Prof. Marie Joy D. Banawa, Dean of the College of Arts and Social Sciences at MSU-IIT. "Through partnership and collaboration, we can have a program that not only fulfills the educational needs of the local community but also fosters intercultural transfer".It decided to solidify the program details that would eventually lead to an official launch during the next academic year. This cooperation is likely to deepen cross-cultural experiences for the students, integrating the pedagogical philosophies and practices of both nations. In its statement, Dean Dr. Eko Purwanti of UMY's Faculty of Language Education declared: "This means a great step in the development of language education in empowering next-generation educators who are strong enough to be resilient for various linguistic environments".As they move forward, the two institutions will collaborate in curriculum development, professor exchange, and pilot joint research projects meant to further enhance both foreign language education in the Philippines and Indonesia.
