IIT Delhi hosts 'Robotics for Good Youth Challenge'

  • The Technology Innovation Hub at IIT Delhi is gearing up for the Robotics for Good Youth Challenge 2024-2025, an educational robotics championship sanctioned by the UN, slated for October 17, 2024. Guided by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), a UN agency focusing on information and communication technologies, this competition aims to harness the potential of robotics for positive impact.

Prospective participants have the opportunity to register on IHFC, IIT Delhi's official website until July 31. Stemming from the ITU's broader initiative, AI for Good, this challenge is a pivotal aspect of the UN's global efforts to leverage artificial intelligence for constructive purposes.

The event is divided into two age categories: junior (grades 6-8) and senior (grades 9-12), and it will unfold at the International Exhibition Convention Centre, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. The top contender from each category will advance to the international stage, competing in the grand finale at the AI for Good Global Summit 2025 in Geneva.

Participants or teams are tasked with conceptualizing, constructing, and programming a robot capable of addressing challenges associated with disasters such as earthquakes, seismic risk assessment, and soil and subsurface exploration. The overarching objective is to contribute to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by innovating solutions for disaster management and sustainable development.

This championship is a biennial event, providing a unique platform for Indian students to showcase their robotics proficiency and present forward-thinking solutions on a global scale. Inspired by a global initiative where robotics plays a crucial role in advancing the UN SDGs, the Robotics for Good Youth Challenge aims to empower young innovators to make meaningful contributions towards a better future.
