Western Sydney University to Establish Campus in India

  • Western Sydney University (WSU), a leading Australian institution, has announced plans to open its first campus in India, making it the third Australian university to establish a physical presence in the country. This new campus will be located in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, marking the first Australian university campus in the state.

The announcement was shared by Australian High Commissioner to India, Philip Green, through a post on X (formerly Twitter). "Another Australian University is coming to India! Excited to see this announcement of @westernsydneyau planning to set up a campus in Greater Noida – this will be the third university campus in India & first in the state of #UttarPradesh", Green posted, emphasizing the growing collaboration in education between the two nations.

Recognized globally for its excellence, WSU was recently ranked as the world’s best higher education institution in the 2024 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, which evaluated 2,152 universities across 125 countries.

This development follows the establishment of campuses by two other Australian universities in India, Deakin University and the University of Wollongong (UOW), both located in GIFT City, Gujarat. Deakin University, the first international university to establish a teaching campus in India, operates under International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) regulations. UOW’s India campus is set to commence operations in November 2024, offering postgraduate programs such as a Master of Computing (Data Analytics) and various Financial Technology degrees.

Australian universities are steadily expanding their footprint in India, reflecting the growing demand for global education in the region. In addition to physical campuses, institutions like the University of Melbourne have also enhanced their presence in India by establishing centers focused on research and sustainable initiatives, such as the one opened in Delhi last year.

WSU’s Greater Noida campus represents a significant step in strengthening India-Australia ties in education, offering Indian students access to world-class academic resources and programs without leaving the country.
