Singapore Sees Surge in Remote Work Job Openings Amid High Demand

  • Recent research indicates that remote work opportunities in Singapore saw a rise in May, driven by increased demand among job seekers. According to the latest data from Indeed, 8.5% of job postings in May specifically referenced terms like 'work from home' or 'remote work' in their job descriptions. This marks a 1.6 percentage point increase from the lowest recorded post-pandemic level in November 2022, as reported by Indeed.

According to Indeed, the increase in remote work opportunities aligns with sustained interest from job seekers. Terms like 'remote work' ranked prominently among the most searched terms in Singapore, surpassing generic terms like 'full-time' or 'part-time'. Overall, job postings experienced a minor decline in May, decreasing by just 0.1% compared to the previous month and by 8.8% compared to the same period last year.

Despite this fall, Indeed's APAC Senior Economist Callam Pickering said job creation in Singapore remains stable. "While job postings in May were broadly flat and lower over the year, Singapore's job market is proving to be resilient in the face of a challenging economic environment", Pickering said in a statement. "Job posting volumes are still elevated across every sector, providing ample opportunity for jobseekers regardless of experience or education".

Indeed reported an increase in job postings for occupations such as architecture (27.9%), medical technician (13.7%), and childcare (10.9%). However, human resources roles experienced a decline of -12% in job postings, along with occupations like physicians and surgeons (-11.7%) and electrical engineering (-12%), which also saw decreases in job openings. "Overall, unemployment in Singapore remains low and skill shortages remain common. Recruitment is perhaps easier than it was a year ago but still remains quite challenging by historical standards", Pickering said.
