Qatar's Education Ministry hosts the 3rd Developmental Mathematics Day

  • The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) hosted the third Developmental Mathematics Day, bringing together over 150 teachers from government schools, alongside representatives from Qatar University's Mathematics Department in the foundation program and the National Center for Educational Development. This event aimed to refine teaching methodologies in mathematics, fostering better comprehension to enhance students' academic performance.

Somaya Al Tamimi, a Mathematics Guidance Consultant at MoEHE, stressed the significance of mathematics in daily life and community progress, asserting that teaching math is a collective endeavour involving educators, researchers, and officials. She urged stakeholders to earnestly devise teaching approaches that ignite students' interest and enthusiasm for learning.

The Developmental Mathematics Day featured diverse topics, including lectures and workshops on effective teaching practices, the role of both in-class and extracurricular activities in boosting academic achievement, leveraging modern technology and AI in math education, and the impact of classroom strategies on teaching effectiveness.

MoEHE, a key ministry in Qatar, provides free education from kindergarten to secondary school for all Qatari citizens, with education mandated by law. Currently led by Minister Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi, the ministry plays a pivotal role in shaping the nation's educational landscape.

In 2002, the Supreme Education Council was established as the apex authority responsible for formulating Qatar's educational policies and overseeing their implementation. Subsequently, independent schools were established by law in 2006, and all public schools transitioned into independent status by 2010.
