Malaysia's Education System Draws Increasing Numbers of Kazakh Students

  • Malaysia's strong reputation for academic excellence, cultural diversity, and affordable living has positioned it as a preferred destination for international students. Notably, Kazakhstan has emerged as a key contributor, ranking among the top 10 countries for new student applications in 2024, as reported by Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS). “Since 2020, over 1,900 Kazakh students have applied to study in Malaysia, reflecting a significant increase in interest”, EMGS said in a statement.

Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS), operating under the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE), is responsible for streamlining visa processing for international students and promoting Malaysia as a global center for talent and knowledge. Recently, a set of quadruplets from Kazakhstan arrived in Kuala Lumpur to begin their studies at the Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation (APU), attracted by Malaysia's reputation for innovation and high-quality education.

EMGS celebrated a milestone with the receipt of its first-ever application from a set of 17-year-old international student quadruplets. Zhaiylkhan Zeregul, Zhaiylkhan Alizhan, Zhaiylkhan Alikhan, and Zhaiylkhan Zaragul are set to pursue studies in Foundation programs in Computing & Technology, Engineering, and Business & Finance.

The chief executive officer (CEO) of EMGS, Novie Tajuddin, expressed confidence that Malaysia's world-class education system and warm hospitality would offer the quadruplets an unforgettable experience. “It is a great honour for us to welcome the quadruplets from Kazakhstan to Malaysia for their studies. We warmly welcome them to their new home away from home", he said in a statement.

He emphasized that EMGS, in collaboration with the MoHE, is dedicated to establishing Malaysia as the preferred education hub for international students globally. Meanwhile, Datuk Parmjit Singh, the CEO of APU, noted that the university has been welcoming students from Kazakhstan and other Central Asian countries for over two decades.

“Our experience with students from this region has been consistently positive, as they have always made their country proud by being conscientious, mature and cultured”, he said. “With over 80,000 successful alumni worldwide, I am confident that Alikhan, Alizhan, Zaragul and Zeregul will benefit immensely from their decision to study here. We look forward to supporting their transformation into global professionals as they embark on their academic journey at APU and settle into life in Malaysia”. He further noted that APU, being the first and only Malaysian university accredited by the UK's Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA), has established a robust reputation for academic excellence.
