Johnson Controls & Ngee Ann Polytechnic team up for Practical Learning

  • Johnson Controls, a leader in smart and sustainable building solutions, has partnered with Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) to launch the NP Built Environment Ecosystem (BEE) initiative. This collaboration, which includes other industry partners, aims to provide NP students with hands-on learning and experience in smart facilities management. The partnership is timely, given the 257% increase in ESG sector jobs over the past three years. Through the BEE initiative, Johnson Controls and other industry leaders will offer students valuable training and insights. NP plans to upskill up to 1,000 professionals in the field over the next three years, highlighting the crucial role of public-private partnerships in raising industry standards and preparing future talent.

Peter Ferguson, General Manager for Southeast Asia at Johnson Controls, emphasized the significance of this collaboration. He noted the growing demand for sustainability-related roles and the priority businesses place on sustainable practices. Ferguson stated that the partnership is dedicated to promoting innovation and education in the industry, enabling students to excel in facilities management and support the development of smart cities in the region.

The BEE initiative will enhance NP's educational offerings with updated courses and provide students with practical training and internship opportunities in Project Delivery and Services teams. These roles will give students real-world experience in various aspects of the built environment sector, aligning with the industry's sustainability goals.

Lim Kok Kiang, Principal and CEO of Ngee Ann Polytechnic, expressed the institution's commitment to forming strategic partnerships with industry leaders like Johnson Controls. He believes that this collaboration will drive sustainability innovation and talent development in the built environment sector, supporting Singapore's vision for a sustainable future. The partnership reflects a shared goal to contribute significantly to this vision.
