IIT Roorkee's Perovskite Start-Up Wins IOCL Grant for Solar Windows

  • Perovskite Innovation Pvt Ltd, a leading Indian startup specializing in the production of indigenous perovskite solar cells, and incubated at the esteemed Tides Business Incubation Center within IIT Roorkee, proudly announces its reception of the prestigious Indian Oil Start-Up Challenge Award. This recognition underscores the innovative advancements made by the team in creating cost-effective solar window solutions, which are poised to revolutionize renewable energy technology.

In light of increasing global energy demands and the pressing need for sustainable solutions, the environmental drawbacks associated with traditional fossil fuel-based energy sources have become more evident. To confront this challenge, Perovskite Innovation has dedicated itself to harnessing the potential of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) to pave the way for a cleaner, more sustainable future.

Perovskite materials demonstrate exceptional light absorption capabilities and a wide absorption cross-section, enabling efficient energy capture even in low-light conditions. Their semi-transparent nature, coupled with color adjustability and cost-effectiveness, positions them as frontrunners in the pursuit of renewable energy solutions.

Prof. Soumitra Satapathi, Co-Founder of Perovskite Innovation Pvt Ltd and a faculty member in the Physics Department at IIT Roorkee, stated, “Our technology aims to optimize solar cell efficiency while preserving device transparency, ultimately leading to the scalability of the technology for prototype production.”

Regarding the importance of integrating semi-transparent perovskite solar cells into building windows and facades, Prof. K.K. Pant, Director of IIT Roorkee, noted, “This integration represents a promising pathway toward achieving our net-zero objectives, utilizing innovative technologies to propel us toward a sustainable future.”

Perovskite Innovation remains dedicated to advancing solar window technology while also focusing on developing high-efficiency silicon-perovskite tandem solar cells. The company aims to play a central role in realizing a greener, more sustainable energy landscape through collaborative efforts with key stakeholders and ongoing innovation.
