China's Education Ministry Launches Online Guide for Post-Gaokao College Apps

  • The Ministry of Education in China has announced the launch of a website providing complimentary assistance to high school graduates on university and college application processes following the completion of the annual national college entrance exam, commonly known as the gaokao, according to a statement released by the ministry.

The outcomes of this year's nationwide gaokao, which began on June 7 and lasted two to four days across various regions, are anticipated to be disclosed by approximately June 25 in most areas throughout China.

Following the release of their results, students will be required to compile a prioritized list of preferred institutions for their intended studies and submit it online. Admission to colleges will be determined based on both their test scores and the submitted application lists.

The Ministry's website offers comprehensive details on over 2,800 institutions nationwide and specifics about more than 130 sought-after majors, outlining core courses and potential career paths. Students can input their test scores on the site to receive personalized recommendations regarding their choice of institutions and majors, utilizing big data analysis of past years' college admissions trends.

The Ministry announced plans to launch an online platform allowing universities and colleges to interact with students through text chats and live-streaming sessions. College admissions are scheduled to commence in early July and wrap up before the end of August across much of China. This year's gaokao saw a record participation of 13.42 million individuals, marking an increase of 510,000 compared to the previous year.
