Bahrain Hosts Its First MENA International Space Forum

  • The 6th International Space Forum at Ministerial Level—The Gulf Chapter (ISF 2024) will be hosted by the National Space Science Agency (NSSA) in collaboration with the Italian Space Agency (ISA) and the International Astronautical Federation (IAF). Scheduled for July 2-3, the forum will focus on the theme "Space's Role in Shaping Diplomacy and Driving Economic Growth in the Region".

Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Al Asiri, CEO of NSSA, emphasized the significance of hosting the forum, highlighting its role in establishing the kingdom as a focal point for regional and global space gatherings. This initiative aligns with the goals outlined in the 2024-2028 strategic plan, the national space policy, and the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa al Khalifa.

The forum is aimed at ministers and officials overseeing space endeavors, along with those in charge of research, science, technology, and education, as well as the heads of space agencies within the Gulf region. Additionally, space agencies from other parts of the world and pertinent intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations are invited to participate as observers.

The deliberations will center on the ways in which space science and technology can foster enhanced development within the region. Specifically, the focus will be on three main themes: Earth Observation, spanning from technological advancements to practical applications and services; Space Exploration, serving as a portal to the wider universe; and Space Visions and Policies, facilitating the exchange of experiences and the adoption of best practices.

Upon the forum's conclusion, the delegations will ratify a concluding statement, named "The Manama Page," articulating the participating nations' perspectives, needs, and recommendations. This document will join the ranks of previous declarations such as the Trento Space Statement from the inaugural ISF in 2016, the Nairobi Page from ISF 2017, the Buenos Aires Page from ISF 2018, the Reggio Calabria Page from ISF 2019, and the Panama City Page from ISF 2023.
