ASEAN Workshop Elevates Tech Education in Myanmar and Vietnam

  • The ASEAN Cooperation Fund recently supported a significant initiative titled "Enhancing Capacity Building in Science and Technology through Close Collaboration between Mandalay Technological University and Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology." The aim was to advance technological education in undergraduate courses at universities in Myanmar and Vietnam. A workshop held at the Mingala Mandalay Hotel marked a crucial moment in this endeavour.

The workshop gathered a diverse group, including Union Minister for Science and Technology Dr Myo Thein Kyaw, the Chief Minister of Mandalay Region, and representatives from the Consulate General of India in Mandalay. Key figures from the ASEAN Secretariat, educators, and students from prestigious universities in Myanmar and Vietnam engaged in fruitful discussions. The focus was on utilizing the ASEAN Cooperation Project to significantly strengthen educational infrastructure and activities in both countries. The initiative aimed to formulate comprehensive plans for developing undergraduate programs that align with the current technological landscape.

Union Minister Dr Myo Thein Kyaw emphasized the transformative impact of science and technology in his address. He envisioned an enriched ASEAN community through the talents and innovations of its youth, nurtured by improved educational frameworks. The afternoon session featured insights from Dr By Vu Anh Quang of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and a presentation of a quality assessment report by Project Manager Dr Wunna Swe. These discussions illuminated the path towards refining undergraduate courses to meet the evolving needs and aspirations of students.

Faculty members from technological universities in Myanmar contributed to the dialogue by sharing their analyses in areas such as Desk Surveys and Staff Student HR Research. These findings, based on data collected from technological universities, are crucial for understanding how to elevate the quality of undergraduate courses. This collective effort demonstrates a commitment to advancing educational standards and fostering unity among ASEAN nations. The focus on the development of science and technology education laid the groundwork for a more interconnected ASEAN community.
