AstraZeneca Vietnam is extending its partnership with the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Ho Chi Minh City to bolster medical education and advance scientific research capabilities. In August, the university and AstraZeneca Vietnam formalized an agreement to enhance medical education and research capacity through 2028. This initiative aims to cultivate highly skilled healthcare professionals and support the sustainable growth of the national healthcare system.
The two parties will persist in their collaboration to strengthen the role of training and scientific research in healthcare and evidence-based medicine within the region. According to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), AstraZeneca Vietnam and the university will focus on enhancing bilateral cooperation in healthcare through several key areas: offering continuing medical education (both online and offline); improving the research capabilities of faculty members, postgraduate researchers, and medical professionals; and supporting the publication of scientific research in renowned international journals.
Not only bringing practical benefits to both organizations, this cooperation also promises to significantly contribute to enhancing the quality of the healthcare workforce and promoting the development of Vietnam's healthcare system. Through training and nurturing a high-quality research team, we will have more research published in international scientific journals, thereby affirming Vietnam's position in evidence-based medicine.
Assoc. Prof. Ngo Quoc Dat, vice principal of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City, congratulated the successes achieved in Phase 1. "The next phase of the collaboration will bring even more significant progress to gain more value to the Vietnamese healthcare industry", he said.
Atul Tandon, general director of AstraZeneca Vietnam, also expressed AstraZeneca commitment to promoting scientific progress, improving the skills and knowledge of healthcare professionals, and contributing to building a sustainable foundation for Vietnam's healthcare system.
During Phase 1, from 2020 to 2024, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Ho Chi Minh City and AstraZeneca conducted continuous medical training programs featuring short-term courses in genetic counseling, molecular biology, and pathology. These programs were instrumental in updating knowledge and improving practical skills for 72 oncologists and 20 pathologists from nearly 20 top cancer hospitals across the country.
Furthermore, through training in skills and guidance on international publications, up to 30 research articles were successfully published in esteemed medical journals globally. Regular intensive courses were conducted, covering research proposal writing, publication techniques, and presentation skills for health science conferences. These courses benefitted over 500 doctors and postgraduate students.
