WISE is navigating the confluence of AI and education: Qatar

  • The World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE), under the Qatar Foundation, encourages and engages educators to gain a profound understanding of the connection between transformative technology and education. The aim is to encourage educators to adopt and responsibly integrate such technology into learning environments. Bassim Hijazi, Editor and WISE On Air Producer at WISE, highlighted the increasing importance of educators comprehending the intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and education. He noted that as AI becomes more integrated into various facets of human life, discussions are focused on its potential to bring about a revolution in personalized learning.

Hijazi contends that while AI-focused tools offer distinctive opportunities for learners and educators on a global scale, there is a substantial disparity between the current offerings and what should ideally be available. He advocates for challenging the existing norms to promote inclusivity and acknowledges the diversity that various cultures and communities contribute to the world. With the evolving landscape of education through AI, the imperative for responsible integration becomes crucial to ensure a future that is advantageous for everyone. Emphasizing the potential of AI to transform personalized learning, Hijazi states, "Utilizing insights from AI-driven tools enables educators to customize lessons and deliver knowledge to students based on their individual preferences and strengths". This personalized approach not only enhances student engagement but also significantly improves learning outcomes.

"We require educational systems to provide instruction on the hazards associated with the use of AI-driven technology", he emphasizes, highlighting the need for comprehending the inner workings of AI tools. Despite the current emphasis on integrating AI into education, Hijazi urges a shift in focus towards educating both educators and students about the underlying mechanisms and potential risks of AI. He emphasizes the necessity for a more collaborative approach involving global innovators, thought leaders and policymakers to fully harness the benefits of such technologies in the global education landscape. Hijazi notes that platforms like WISE are actively working to expand their community of essential education stakeholders to lead critical discussions, establish meaningful partnerships, and participate in research initiatives aimed at shaping the future of education.
