SPbPU Hosts Chinese Students in Gazprom Neft Internship Program

  • Peter the Great Polytechnic University recently hosted students from China Petroleum University (Beijing), accompanied by Fan Xiaoyuan, an international office specialist. The visit was part of the Symphony of Cooperation international internship program organized by Gazprom Neft. Last year, the Embrace a Green and Wise Future of Energy international project was launched at China Petroleum University. Additionally, a Russian-Chinese summer camp was established in China, welcoming top students from the corporate master’s programs in IT — Enterprise Infrastructure and IT Economics and Business Analysis.

The main goals of the Symphony of Cooperation internship were to develop academic mobility projects for students of corporate master’s degree programs and expand ties in science and culture between Russian and Chinese universities. First of all, students from China Petroleum University visited Gazprom Neft’s offices and digital laboratories, where they discussed digital technologies in the oil industry and their development prospects with the company’s experts. The visit continued with an introduction to Polytechnic University. An excursion to the SPbPU Museum allowed the guests to get acquainted with the history of the University, key historical figures and outstanding scientists, the learning process and the life of the first students.

After the tour, the students visited the Center for Project Activities of Youth — Fablab Polytech, part of the global network of high-tech digital laboratories known as Fab Lab. At the Center for Open Education, they observed the use of virtual reality technologies in engineering education and participated in tasks involving the modeling of technological processes and the creation of virtual spaces. A key highlight of the program was the visit to the 'GazpromNeft-Polytech' Research and Education Center, where students learned about its activities and ongoing projects. The visit concluded at the Industrial Streaming Data Processing Systems lab, where, during an introductory lecture, the students discussed real cases and student projects from their university with the lab specialists.

"The Symphony of Cooperation international internship program is a great opportunity for our students to get acquainted with the development of the oil and gas industry in Russia and learn more about leading universities. Our students visited laboratories and educational centers and got acquainted with the campus and the history of the university. I believe that short-term student exchange programs are a good start. And I hope that we can unlock even more potential for cooperation between our two universities", shared Fan Xiaoyuan, a specialist from the international office of China Petroleum University.
