Promoting Innovation: UDST Organizes Second Global Workshop on 3D Printing

  • The University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) inaugurated the 2nd International Workshop on 3D Printing for Applied Technologies. Hosted by the University's College of Engineering and Technology, the two-day event builds on the success of last year's inaugural workshop, which attracted over 150 participants. The current edition assembles experts from various technical fields, both local and international, to showcase significant advancements in 3D printing. This further establishes UDST's pivotal position in Qatar's 3D printing domain.

The event was attended by esteemed guests and partners, featuring speakers from around the world, including Dr. Robert Kay, Professor of Advanced Manufacturing at the University of Leeds; Dr. Derya Daran, Associate Professor in Material Science and Engineering at the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Saudi Arabia; Dr. Jang-Ung Park, Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Yonsei University in the Republic of Korea; Mr. Riccardo Nicastro, Group Chief Commercial Officer for Caracol AM in Italy; Mrs. Vesna Covic Palikuca, Lecturer and Mechanical Instructor in the Mechanical Engineering Department at UDST; and Dr. Ehab Saleh, Assistant Professor in Smart Manufacturing at UDST and the Technical Chair of this year's workshop.

Dr. Salem Al-Naemi, President of UDST, expressed the institution's dedication to progress and education in industrial technologies, particularly 3D Printing, by hosting this workshop for the second consecutive year. Recognizing the pivotal role of 3D Printing in the anticipated 4th industrial revolution, the technology finds applications in diverse sectors such as healthcare, aeronautics, automotive, manufacturing, construction, and education. Emphasizing the importance of collaboration between industry and academia, Dr. Al-Naemi highlighted the significance of providing valuable learning opportunities for students to engage with and learn from experts. This approach aims to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills for future success.
