IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi Campus to Launch UG Programs This September

  • IIT Delhi's Abu Dhabi campus, which began operations in 2023, will expand its offerings by introducing two undergraduate programs starting this September, according to Director Rangan Banerjee. Previously, the offshore campus had only provided postgraduate courses. The new undergraduate programs will be in Computer Science Engineering and Energy Engineering.

A total of 60 students will be admitted to the two new undergraduate programs. This includes 20 students who have passed the JEE (Advanced) 2024 and 40 selected through a new entrance exam called the Combined Admission Entrance Test (CAET), as announced by Banerjee during a press conference.

Of the 40 seats to be filled through CAET, 20 are reserved for UAE nationals, while the remaining 20 are allocated for expatriates in the UAE (including Indian expatriates) and international students, he added. Further, Banerjee mentioned that the Abu Dhabi campus is actively engaging with industry and partners across the UAE and the Gulf region. Research, innovation, and entrepreneurship initiatives are anticipated to begin shortly.

Plans are underway to establish a permanent campus for IIT Delhi-Abu Dhabi. Currently, faculty members from the Delhi campus are being assigned to the Abu Dhabi campus through a selection process approved by the board. In the future, faculty recruitment for the Abu Dhabi campus will be conducted in accordance with IIT Delhi's recruitment standards and procedures. This will ensure that the quality of education at the Abu Dhabi campus aligns with the high standards set at the Delhi campus, as noted by Banerjee.
