The final round of the northern and central section of the 17th Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign High School Students has concluded. This event, hosted by Hanoi University and co-organized by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation under China's Ministry of Education and the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam, was a significant showcase of linguistic talent.
The competition's final round featured four segments: a themed speech, a Chinese knowledge quiz, an impromptu speech, and a talent show. These activities were conducted offline at Hanoi University's meeting hall, providing a platform for students to demonstrate their Chinese proficiency.
Nguyen Tuong Anh, a student from the Foreign Language Specialized School at Vietnam National University, emerged as the winner among 16 participants from nine different high schools. Her performance of the Chinese sword dance "Huamulan" received great acclaim from the audience. Expressing her enthusiasm, Nguyen Tuong Anh mentioned, "I have learned Chinese since I was young, and I will visit China during this summer holiday to learn more about Chinese culture."
Nguyen Thi Cuc Phuong, vice president of Hanoi University, emphasized the strong cultural and friendly ties between Vietnam and China. She highlighted the importance of nurturing these bonds among younger generations, stating that the shared cultural heritage and profound friendships between the two countries should be preserved and continued.
According to Zheng Dawei, the educational counsellor at the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam, there are over 10,000 primary and middle school students and 20,000 college students currently studying Chinese in Vietnam. This statistic underscores the growing interest and commitment to learning Chinese within the Vietnamese educational system. The competition not only fostered language skills but also strengthened cultural connections between the two neighbouring countries.
